Bioengineering 08

Important: this event has passed!

Bioengineering 08 is the first in a series of annual meetings that will bring together researchers working on bioengineering and biomedical problems to discuss the latest results, explore new analytical techniques and instrumentation, and set the agenda for future bioengineering research.

Each day will begin with an internationally renowned plenary speaker - Christian Amatore (Paris), Functional Biosensing, Roger Kamm (MIT) Cellular Biomechanics, Ron Weiss (Princeton) Synthetic Biology

The meeting will then split into two or three parallel themes. In these themes an aspect of bioengineering will be explored in more detail with selected talks and invited keynote lectures. The themes are -

Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering - Biocompatibility, scaffolds

Biomechanics - Cardiovascular, muscular skeletal, soft tissue and cellular mechanics

Biomedical Devices - Physiological monitoring, cellular monitoring

Imaging - Image processing, clinical imaging, novel optical and molecular

Neurotechnology - Information transfer, neuroengineering, rehabilitation engineering

Posters from postgraduate students/PDRAs will be a major part of the meeting. Posters from the day's themes will be displayed in the refreshments/trade show area throughout the day. During the timetabled poster session, presenters will have the chance to defend their posters to the international judging panel to win one of the poster prizes. The session will finish with an extended social evening.

An outcome of this meeting will be the inauguration of a new society, The Bioengineering Society, to provide a forum for researchers to discuss the challenges of interdisciplinary bioengineering research. The meeting will hold an open discussion session on this initiative.

There will be a trade show during the meeting. It will be situated in the refreshments/poster area with excellent access to delegates. Please contact Patrick Degenaar,
p.degenaar@imperial.ac.uk, for further details.

Two types of hall rooms will be available: single rooms and a limited number of lowcost shared rooms. Good rates in local hotels can also be arranged. It will be possible to extend bookings to add a 'weekend in London'. All accommodation will be arranged

through the Imperial College Accommodation Office.
